Cummins Leads a Host of Lady Knights to All-State Honors
The last action taken for the 2019 volleyball season was selecting the All-State team by the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association. King’s Way is thrilled to announce that a total of 4 Lady Knights have been selected for All-State Honors. First on the list is Abby Cummins who was selected to 2nd Team All-State. The highest accolade out of the 4 athletes. Abby led the team as a setter to a league title, 2nd place finish at Districts, a berth to the State Tournament that led to a 5th place finish. The junior setter was one of the State Tournament’s leading setters in the category of digs and was well respected by all opponents and their coaches. “Abby Cummins was my nominee of player of the year.”, said a Seton Catholic’s head coach. Coach Agan said, “Take Abby off this team and the dynamic and our abilities completely change. We’re just not the same without her.” A multi-sport athlete, Cummins is now the basketball team’s 2nd leading scorer and will be helping her team win a league title this year.
Senior outside hitter Dana Snider is the 2nd one our list. Snider was selected to Honorable Mention on the All-State team. A fierce competitor and warrior on the court, the senior will leave a very successful legacy as a four year varsity player winning more games than any other player at King’s Way. She led the team in kills and in percentage. As she moves onward to her next goals in life, King’s Way hopes to see her as an alum as she will carry influence and clout with those that come behind her.
Junior middle blocker Brooke Mattilla (mah-di-LUH), or what we like to say MAH-ti-luh the ki-LUH, was selected to the Honorable Mention All-State team. Brooke is a smooth hitter that can hit on quick transitions and slides. A very capable hitter from any where on the court, her partnership with the other hitters and Abby Cummins will be a marvel to see next year. With sneaky good power with excellent approaches, this Killer of a hitter will likely lead her team in kills next year.
Sophomore libero Aly Evanson rounds out the list and was selected to the Honorable Mention All-State team. Aly’s improvement over the course of the year was constant culminating in an incredible state tournament performance. Her hustle and relentless pursuit of the ball helped control the back row. Evanson will have the opportunity to be a leader on this team for several more years and league foes will have to contend with her competitive spirit and incredible skill. She willingly puts her body on the line and selflessly controls passing so setters can set and hitters can hit.
King’s Way Christian School is so proud of our Lady Knights Volleyball program and can’t wait for the summer workout period. Stay tuned as we will post how the off-season is going for several of these athletes.
